Gorgeous rooftops in Chicago

Chicago has been a dream city for us to visit. And sitting on a rooftop bar, sipping an old fashioned and looking at the gorgeous views was at the top of our list of experiences to have. And boy, did we have an experience of a lifetime!

We will list our top 3 preferences out of all the rooftops that we visited, in no particular order. The reason for selecting these is to make sure we recommend three very different experiences with very different views and vibes. There are a lot of rooftops you can find within the city itself that give a similar vibe, but these are definitely the best!

If you find yourself strolling the Navy Pier and looking for a place to wet your beak, make your way to the Offshore Rooftop! This was an unintentional find for us, but they were happy to accommodate us last minute and give us nice spot with a view of the Chicago skyline. This is one of the few (only?) places that offer a frontal view of the Chicago skyline. Enjoy with a few drinks or some snacks.

This is one of the most loved and unique rooftops in the windy city. It offers and expansive view of the skyline, Millennium Park, the bean and Lake Michigan! Come here for a chill brunch and have a few drinks at your table or standing outside on the huge patio! We loved the unique food, as well as the funky drinks. It is hard to screw up with a view like this.

Last on this list, but one that showcases the best of what Chicago has to offer. It is situated on the top of the London House building, which is positioned strategically at the curve of the Chicago river. So the rooftop gives you the chance to have a bird's eye view of a gazillion bridges on the river and faces the majestic Trump tower. If you love seeing the lit up city as much as I do, then you should ensure you head up here.

Pro Tips

Here are some more nuggets of wisdom -

  1. Get a reservation for LH or Cindy's. Else, be prepared to wait a few hours. But sometimes try for group sizes bigger than yours, and you might get a reservation ;) I found a reservation for 4 when I couldn't find one for 2.

  2. You might hear about Raised rooftop bar being nice, and maybe it is. But we did not feel it was justified to spend $$$ to be one floor above the road. 'Nuff said.

  3. If you are a kid (I'm 31, so well, you know what I mean when I say 'kid') and love to dance, then head over to IO Godfrey, as that is definitely the place to be.

  4. Remember that cocktails in Chicago are EXPENSIVE. So make sure you select a few places (preferably the ones we listed) and go there.

Last words - take an uber around, as it isn't that expensive, and allows you to drink to your heart's .. errr, liver's desire. ;)
